Obviously, I am not the only one seeking the Office of Sheriff; I strongly believe democracy is about informed choices and active participation. Please use your favorite web search engine to increase your knowledge of the other candidates and make an informed choice. I hope the below information is helpful.

Richard Calderon:

Martin Monica:
In 2000, Martin Monica ran unsuccessfully for City of Santa Clara Chief of Police. In 2002, he served as the City of Palier Chief of Police for about 6 months. In 2004, he ran unsuccessfully for North Evergreen’s Mount Pleasant Elementary School District. In 2005, Martin Monica was a candidate for the East Palo Alto Chief of Police. Jose Salcido:
In 1998, Jose Salcido ran unsuccessfully for Sheriff and was eliminated in the June primary election. He has since successfully kept himself politically active and in the news. Regarding Jose Salcido’s character and integrity, review case # 104CV2067 at the Superior Court located at 191 N. 1st St. San Jose, Ca.  Compare his declaration to his deposition. Laurie Smith was elected on November 3, 1998, in a run off election, as there were five candidates in the June primary election. Laurie Smith took office on December 15, 1998 and ran unopposed in 2002 and 2006. Her third consecutive four year term ends December 2010, at which time she will be the longest serving Sheriff in Santa Clara County history.
